Abstract
The essay presents a critical view to the shortcomings of meanings that arise from the experience of inhabiting the "Plaza de la ciudadanía" of Santiago de Chile, which is built as part of the bicentennial commemoration. From the point of view of contemporary public spaces and what we mean by citizenship today, it lacks spatial values to use the plaza in a democratic manner. The text presents a review of international examples, proposes a definition of the term "contemporary citizenship", exposes what the authors of the project sought and finally analyzes the place from a morphological way, involving to the concepts developed in the essay
