Title: The power of music in the lives of older people
Publisher version: http://www.uk.sagepub.com/journals/Journal201863
Language: English
Additional information: (in press) This paper reviews the evidence relating to specific benefits of active participation in music-making amongst older people. Some barriers to participation are identified and implications for older people and their carers are discussed. There is much current interest in the role that music can play in protecting and sustaining well-being amongst older people. This is one of the only exisitn robust literature reviews in this area. I draw on key evidence, with an emphasis on a project carried out by the IOE, funded by the ESRC NDA strand. Our project has attracted international attention and this paper will be read widely.
