Title: | Educating 14- to 19-year olds in England: a UK lens on possible futures |
Open access status: | An open access version is available from UCL Discovery |
Language: | English |
Additional information: | This article is the final one in a Special Edition of the London Review of Education which I co-edited with Ken Spours. It both summarises some of the issues raised by earlier authors in the special edition and begins to address some of the major issues we raise about 14-19 education and training across the four countries of the UK. It draws on but extends research undertaken as part of the Nuffield Review of 14-19 Education and Training in England and Wales and uses material from an ESRC-sponsored seminar series as well as a set of interviews undertaken in Northern Ireland. Its significance lies in its UK-wide approach - often work on this phase of education is considered in relation to England only. It also goes beyond discussion of curriculum and qualifications to consider issues of governance and the economy, having important messages about the new Coalition Government's approach in this area and issues related to governance and devolution. |
