Title: Education, globalisation and the 'voice of knowledge'
Open access status: An open access version is available from UCL Discovery
Language: English
Additional information: This paper was originally presentd as part of an ESRC seminar series- Education for a knowledge economy? and will be published in a book co-edited by the author. It begins by commenting that although the idea of a knowledge economy is widely used, there is rarely any attempt to address the issue of knowledge itself. The paper draws on a range of authors including Bernstein, Bachelard and Vygotsky to make a case for a realist sociology of knowledge and its possibilities both for the curriculum and for re-thinking the role of knowledge in a knowledge economy. I rate this paper 3 on the critria specified. This is an electronic version of an article published in Young , Michael (2009) Education, globalisation and the 'voice of knowledge'. Journal of Education and Work, 22 (3). pp. 193-204. Journal of Education and Work is available online at: http://www.informaworld.com/10.1080/13639080902957848 Special Issue: On knowledge and work
