Title: What can digital technologies take from and bring to research in mathematics education?
ISBN: 1-4020-1008-7
Language: English
Additional information: This paper is an invited contribution to the major research handbook in the field in recent years. It aims to bring the field of research with and on computationally-based technologies in mathematical learning closer to the broader field of mathematics education research. The paper maps out avenues for investigation that arise from examining the interrelationship between them. The paper examines representational forms and cultures, as an organising framework for the review, which focuses on environments which are autoexpressive – this idea is elaborated from earlier work. Key areas discussed are expressive tools, and calculational instruments. Current research undertaken by the authors forms a pivotal role in the discussion.
