We propose that the remarkably similar features detected in both objects in the 5-35 Angstrom band are H-like oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon emission lines, gravitationally redshifted and broadened by relativistic effects in the vicinity of a Kerr black hole. We discuss the implications of our interpretation, and demonstrate that the derived parameters can be physically self-consistent. date: 2001-01 date_type: published publisher: SPRINGER-VERLAG vfaculties: VMPS rae2008: 19 oa_status: green primo: open primo_central: open_green article_type_text: Article verified: verified_batch elements_source: Web of Science elements_id: 16496 lyricists_name: Branduardi Raymont, Graziella lyricists_name: Page, Mathew lyricists_id: GBRAN40 lyricists_id: MJPAG55 full_text_status: public publication: ASTRON ASTROPHYS volume: 365 number: 1 pagerange: L140 - L145 refereed: TRUE issn: 0004-6361 citation: Branduardi-Raymont, G; Sako, M; Kahn, SM; Brinkman, AC; Kaastra, JS; Page, MJ; (2001) Soft X-ray emission lines from a relativistic accretion disk in MCG-6-30-15 and Mrk 766.
