In so doing, they encounter tensions between the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, and must make investments in information security measures to address these concerns. We discuss how a macroeconomics-inspired model, analogous to models of interest rate policy used by central banks, can be used to understand trade-offs between investments against threats to confidentiality and availability. We investigate how such a model might be formulated by constructing a process model, based on empirically obtained data, of the use of USB memory sticks by employees of a financial services company. date: 2008-06-28 date_type: published publisher: Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS) official_url: http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/conf/weis/weis2008.html vfaculties: VENG oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_source: DBLP elements_id: 95753 lyricists_name: Beautement, Adam lyricists_name: Pym, David lyricists_name: Sasse, Martina lyricists_id: ABEAU88 lyricists_id: DPYMX87 lyricists_id: MASAS22 actors_name: Sasse, Martina actors_name: Becker, Ingolf actors_id: MASAS22 actors_id: BECKE00 actors_role: owner actors_role: impersonator full_text_status: public series: Annual Workshop on the Economics of Information Security publication: WEIS volume: 7 place_of_pub: Hanover, NH, USA event_title: 7th Annual Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS 2008) book_title: Proceedings of the 7th Annual Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS 2008) citation: Beautement, A; Coles, R; Griffin, J; Ioannidis, C; Monahan, B; Pym, DJ; Sasse, MA; Beautement, A; Coles, R; Griffin, J; Ioannidis, C; Monahan, B; Pym, DJ; Sasse, MA; Wonham, M; - view fewer <#> (2008) Modelling the Human and Technological Costs and Benefits of USB Memory Stick Security.
