However, since BRBs are characterized by a low lateral post-elastic stiffness, their use may lead to excessive residual deformations that may jeopardize the reparability of the building. Moreover, accumulation of plastic deformations in the BRBs may endanger the capability of withstanding multiple earthquakes and aftershocks. The objective of this paper is to provide insight into the performance and residual capacity of dual systems made of BRB frames coupled with moment-resisting frames. This study considers a simplified single degree of freedom model which permits to investigate a wide range of configurations. A non-dimensional formulation of the equation of motion is introduced, the statistic of the normalized peak and residual displacements and cumulative ductility of the system is evaluated under a set of ground motion records. Different values of the BRB target maximum ductility and different coupled frame properties are considered. The results of this study provide useful information for the preliminary design of dual systems made of BRB frames coupled with moment-resisting frames. date: 2017-09-21 date_type: published publisher: ANIDIS official_url: http://convegno.anidis.it/index.php/anidis/2017 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1424080 lyricists_name: Freddi, Fabio lyricists_id: FFRED33 actors_name: Dewerpe, Marie actors_id: MDDEW97 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public place_of_pub: Pistoia, Italy event_title: XVII National Conference ANIDIS, L'Ingegneria sismica in Italia event_location: Pistoia, Italy event_dates: 17 September 2017 - 21 September 2017 institution: XVII National Conference ANIDIS, L'Ingegneria sismica in Italia book_title: Proceedings of XVII National Conference ANIDIS, L'Ingegneria sismica in Italia citation: Tubaldi, E; Freddi, F; Zona, A; Dall'Asta, A; (2017) Seismic performance of structural systems equipped with buckling-restrained braces.
