METHODS: Literature searches were conducted and identified 36 relevant papers from the period 1908-2016. RESULTS: The systematic review found that many children experience difficulties in a wide range of psychosocial domains. Quality of life can also be significantly reduced. Inconsistent findings regarding the correlates of outcome are likely due to methodological limitations. These issues include small and heterogeneous samples, lack of control groups, and measurement difficulties. CONCLUSIONS: This systematic review strongly indicates that childhood stroke can affect a myriad of psychosocial domains and a child's quality of life. Methodological issues, particularly around heterogeneous samples and measures, limit the conclusions that can be drawn regarding the predictors of outcome. date: 2017-02-16 date_type: published official_url: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/17518423.2017.1282052 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green article_type_text: Journal Article verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1299974 doi: 10.1080/17518423.2017.1282052 lyricists_name: Ganesan, Vijeya lyricists_name: King, John lyricists_name: Murphy, Tara lyricists_id: VGANE80 lyricists_id: JAKIN44 lyricists_id: TMURP83 full_text_status: public publication: Developmental Neurorehabilitation volume: 20 number: 7 pagerange: 428-442 event_location: England issn: 1751-8431 citation: O'Keeffe, F; Stark, D; Murphy, O; Ganesan, V; King, J; Murphy, T; (2017) Psychosocial outcome and quality of life following childhood stroke - A systematic review.
