The DNA replication stress checkpoint prevents the accumulation of replication stress-induced DNA damage and the potential ensuing genome instability. A critical role for post-translational modifications, such as phosphorylation, in the replication stress checkpoint response has been well established. However, recent work has revealed an important role for transcription in the cellular response to DNA replication stress. In this review, we will provide an overview of current knowledge of the cellular response to DNA replication stress with a specific focus on the DNA replication stress checkpoint transcriptional response and its role in the prevention of replication stress-induced DNA damage. date: 2017-03-02 date_type: published official_url: http://doi.org/10.3390/genes8030092 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green article_type_text: Journal Article verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1213043 doi: 10.3390/genes8030092 pii: genes8030092 lyricists_name: De Bruin, Robertus lyricists_name: Herlihy, Anna lyricists_id: RAMDE74 lyricists_id: HERLI27 actors_name: Bracey, Alan actors_id: ABBRA90 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: Genes volume: 8 number: 3 article_number: 92 event_location: Switzerland issn: 2073-4425 citation: Herlihy, AE; de Bruin, RA; (2017) The Role of the Transcriptional Response to DNA Replication Stress.
