A developmental-contextual systems of resilience is presented that conceptualises the developmental and contextual influences on the manifestation of individual adaptation in the face of adversity. It is argued that to support young people in the transition to independent adulthood the role of the context and institutional policies are vital, as is the need to build supportive and sustainable relationships between individuals and their immediate and wider context.
