Commercial drilling operations have not yet commenced, but exploration is taking place in some European countries, including the UK. Major environmental concerns, regarding the amount and the handling method of the emissions associated with hydraulic fracturing, the disposal of waste water and the low well productivity, have pushed some countries to ban exploration and trials. We contextualized the shale gas extraction to the UK condition where the estimate of recoverable gas has made the debate on shale gas highly interesting. We used the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and estimated the environmental burden of shale gas production, processing and distribution at low pressure to the consumer. In this paper we have reported the detailed hot spot analysis of the impact of shale gas on the watersheds. date: 2015-08 date_type: published publisher: ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV official_url: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.egypro.2015.07.685 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green article_type_text: Proceedings Paper verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1115119 doi: 10.1016/j.egypro.2015.07.685 lyricists_name: Lettieri, Paola lyricists_name: Tagliaferri, Carla lyricists_id: PLETT94 lyricists_id: CTAGL96 actors_name: Flynn, Bernadette actors_id: BFFLY94 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: Energy Procedia volume: 75 pagerange: 2706-2712 pages: 7 event_location: Abu Dhabi, U ARAB EMIRATES institution: 7th International Conference on Applied Energy – ICAE2015 issn: 1876-6102 editors_name: Yan, J editors_name: Shamim, T editors_name: Chou, SK editors_name: Li, H citation: Tagliaferri, C; Lettieri, P; Chapman, C; (2015) Life cycle assessment of shale gas in the UK.
