Dominant social narratives state that pregnancy is a time of fulfilment and stability but many women report feeling otherwise. Healthcare prioritises generic information relating to physical health and psychological support is often overlooked. Social support is an important mediator of maternal wellbeing and significant numbers of pregnant women go online to seek out others they can talk to. This research is exploring the potential of digital resources to provide social support in first time pregnancy. Participatory design methods will be used to develop a prototype digital resource with the aim of facilitating tailored peer support to enhance subjective wellbeing during pregnancy and beyond birth. date: 2016-05-07 date_type: published publisher: Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) official_url: http://dx.doi.org/10.1145/2851581.2859021 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1135260 doi: 10.1145/2851581.2859021 isbn_13: 9781450340823 lyricists_name: Newhouse, Nicola lyricists_id: NIPEA04 actors_name: Newhouse, Nicola actors_id: NIPEA04 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public series: CHI Conference Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems volume: 2016 place_of_pub: New York, NY, USA pagerange: 239-243 event_title: 2016 CHI Conference Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI EA '16) event_location: San Jose, California, USA event_dates: 07 May 2016 - 13 May 2016 institution: CHI'16 book_title: CHI EA '16: Proceedings of the 2016 CHI Conference Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems editors_name: Kaye, J editors_name: Druin, A editors_name: Lampe, C editors_name: Morris, D editors_name: Hourcade, JP citation: Newhouse, NI; (2016) bump2bump: Online Peer Support in First-Time Pregnancy.
