Copyright © Space Syntax Laboratory, UCL, 2015. abstract: We introduce Random Walk Closeness (RWC) to the space syntax computational paradigm. Random walks are stochastic processes in which an unbiased walker traverses a network purely based on his current location. Random walks have been used by space syntax in an agent based scenario, where results are simulation based. Here, the results are mathematical based, i.e. RWC is derived from access times, which are the average number of steps it takes to walk between locations. Results suggest an improvement in correlating pedestrian movement over Integration, RA and network Closeness. date: 2015-07-17 date_type: published publisher: Space Syntax Laboratory, The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London official_url: http://www.sss10.bartlett.ucl.ac.uk/category/09-methodological-developments/ oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1086860 isbn_13: 9780993342905 lyricists_name: Hanna, Sean lyricists_name: Karimi, Kayvan lyricists_id: SPHAN24 lyricists_id: KKARI67 actors_name: Hanna, Sean actors_id: SPHAN24 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public series: International Space Syntax Symposium publication: SSS 2015 - 10th International Space Syntax Symposium volume: 10 place_of_pub: London, United Kingdom pagerange: 145:1-145:9 event_title: The 10th International Space Syntax Symposium institution: The 10th Space Syntax Symposium book_title: Proceedings of the 10th Space Syntax Symposium (SSS10) editors_name: Karimi, K editors_name: Vaughan, L editors_name: Sailer, K editors_name: Palaiologou, G editors_name: Bolton, T citation: Fidler, D; Hanna, S; (2015) Introducing random walk measures to space syntax.
