CFIA is required\r\nfor polyA site selection/cleavage targeting RNA\r\nsequences that surround polyadenylation sites in\r\nthe 30\r\n-UTR of RNA polymerase-II transcripts. RNA\r\nrecognition by CFIA is mediated by an RNA recognition\r\nmotif (RRM) contained in the Rna15 subunit of\r\nthe complex. We show here that Rna15 has a strong\r\nand unexpected preference for GU containing RNAs\r\nand reveal the molecular basis for a base selectivity\r\nmechanism that accommodates G or U but discriminates\r\nagainst C and A bases. This mode of base\r\nselectivity is rather different to that observed in\r\nother RRM-RNA structures and is structurally\r\nconserved in CstF64, the mammalian counterpart\r\nof Rna15. Our observations provide evidence for a\r\nhighly conserved mechanism of base recognition\r\namongst the 30\r\n-end processing complexes that\r\ninteract with the U-rich or U/G-rich elements at\r\n30\r\n-end cleavage/polyadenylation sites."^^<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string> .
