abstract: The Expedition Workshed is an internet based application that carries a wide range of high quality, free-to-use material that will help in the education of engineers. This paper explores the current challenges facing those involved in the education of civil and structural engineers. It goes on to describe how the Workshed sets out to help address those challenges. Among other things the role of interactive online structural models is described along with the development of a new structural modelling application “Catastrophe”. The paper concludes with some observations about the success of the initiative to date, as well as setting out the next steps that we plan to take.
