The article analyses twenty language biography interviews with the refugees from Ukraine in Germany. Using the tools of Reflexive Thematic Analysis, translanguaging was defined as one of the central themes in the interviews. In recent scholarship, a translinguistic methodological perspective was applied to explore different educational settings [MacSwann (ed.) 2022] and the linguistic repertoire used by young migrants on social media [Prego Vázquez 2023]. In the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Education, in the entry about translanguaging, it is underscored that “rather than possessing two or more autonomous language systems, as has been traditionally thought, bilinguals, multilinguals, and indeed, all users of language, select and deploy particular features from a unitary linguistic repertoire to make meaning and to negotiate particular communicative contexts” [Vogel & Garcia 2017]. As our research has shown, translanguaging can be understood more broadly as an umbrella term in the context of transnationalism. It is also a coping communicative strategy and self-reflective technique in situations of forced migration. date: 2025-04-11 publisher: Uzhhorod National University = ДВНЗ "Ужгородський національний університет" official_url: https://www.uzhnu.edu.ua/en/ oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual doi: 10.14324/000.ch.10206665 isbn_13: 978-617-8390-78-5 full_text_status: public place_of_pub: Uzhhorod, Ukraine pagerange: 207-225 event_title: Languages and Cultures in Times of War: (Im)possible, (Re)imagined, (Un)manageable book_title: Мови та культури під час війни: Колективна монографія = Languages and cultures in times of war: Collective monograph editors_name: Shumytska, Halyna editors_name: Krouglov, Alex citation: Kiss, Nadiya; (2025) Translanguaging of Ukrainian forced migrants in Germany and scenarios of Ukrainian-Russian bilingualism dynamics in the diaspora.
