The PBL approach simulates the hierarchical structure of a startup company, where lead academics take on executive roles like chief executive officer (CEO) or chief scientific officer (CSO), introducing real-world sustainability challenges while allowing students to devise solutions. Postgraduate Teaching Assistants (PGTAs) are Project Managers, guiding students’ team discussions and maintaining professional group dynamics without providing direct answers. Students work in teams to solve real-world industry problems while assuming roles inspired by actual job postings, such as Research Scientist, Sustainability Officer, and Patent Attorney. date: 2025-03-04 date_type: published official_url: https://www.rsc.org/our-events/rsc-poster/ oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 2366273 lyricists_name: Palomas Dona, David lyricists_id: DPALO47 actors_name: Palomas Dona, David actors_id: DPALO47 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public pres_type: poster event_title: #RSCPoster 2025 event_location: Online conference event_dates: 04 - 05 March 2025 citation: Sonmez, Buse; Palomas, David; (2025) Student Startups: A Problem-Based Learning Approach to Teaching Sustainable Chemistry.
