Most of the existing research primarily focuses on examining the impact of the pandemic on students’ mobility experiences, with little consideration given to the influence of family in the educational migration process in these unique circumstances. Through semi-structured interviews with 18 Chinese postgraduates enrolled in UK universities during 2020–2021, this study reveals that familial connections in the host country have become significant determinants for migration decisions during the pandemic. Additionally, it underlines the reciprocal nature of migration decisions, with individual migration behaviour impacting the lives of their family members, leading to behavioural changes driven by the principles of ‘responsibility’ and ‘solidarity.’. date: 2024-11-21 date_type: published publisher: Informa UK Limited official_url: https://doi.org/10.1080/13229400.2024.2429546 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 2342119 doi: 10.1080/13229400.2024.2429546 lyricists_name: Liu, Chu lyricists_id: CLIUH60 actors_name: Liu, Chu actors_id: CLIUH60 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: Journal of Family Studies citation: Liu, C; Wu, Y; (2024) The role of family in Chinese international student mobility under the COVID-19 pandemic.
