This ‘speculative city’ regime is a product of the economic dominance of property investment and the financialisation of urban land; of state transformation across different scales; and of racialised hierarchies of urban citizenship. Challenging these forces is difficult. But, drawing on research in Tottenham, we identify how a broad community coalition successfully disrupted the speculative city – through a combination of tactics within and against the state. The ‘StopHDV’ campaign offers insights for actors seeking to contest racialised speculative urbanism. date: 2024-10-09 date_type: published publisher: Informa UK Limited official_url: https://doi.org/10.1080/2833115X.2024.2407334 full_text_type: other language: eng verified: verified_manual elements_id: 2327396 doi: 10.1080/2833115x.2024.2407334 lyricists_name: Horton, Amy lyricists_name: Penny, Joe lyricists_id: AHORT63 lyricists_id: JPENN90 actors_name: Penny, Joe actors_id: JPENN90 actors_role: owner full_text_status: restricted publication: Finance and Space volume: 1 number: 1 pagerange: 406-412 issn: 2833-115X citation: Penny, Joe; Horton, Amy; (2024) Race, resistance and the speculative city: reflections from London.
