Halfway through the 2030 Agenda, the centrality of data and reporting to the SDGs is receiving renewed attention. However, much of the focus remains on the challenges posed by the SDG reporting framework. Our initial research has indicated that the relationship between the ‘transformative commitments’ of the SDGs and data has been under-theorised in the literature. In the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals, this key finding sparked a collaboration between SDSN UK and the ONS to develop a preliminary conceptual framework which articulates and synthesises the unique features of data and reporting for the SDGs. The framework is intended to enable a more systematic exploration of the relationship between data and the transformative nature of the sustainable development agenda, and identify potential solutions for addressing SDG data challenges. date: 2024-01 publisher: UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose official_url: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/public-purpose/sites/bartlett_public_purpose/files/pb28.pdf oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 2311052 confidential: false lyricists_name: Roll, Kate lyricists_name: Beaudry, Charles lyricists_name: Tacu, Anca lyricists_id: KROLL65 actors_name: Roll, Kate actors_name: Kaltenbacher, Brigitte G actors_id: KROLL65 actors_id: BGKAL87 actors_role: owner actors_role: impersonator full_text_status: public series: IPP Policy Brief number: No.28 place_of_pub: London, UK pages: 8 citation: Roll, Kate; Beaudry, Charles; Tacu, Anca; Long, Graham; (2024) A novel framework to conceptualise data challenges posed by the SDGs.
