We show that relatively small increases of pressure above atmospheric, of even rather lean mixtures, can autoignite at 550 K. The primary results are evaluated with respect to published experimental studies. The kinetic foundation is then analysed by formal numerical methods to trace the origins of the dramatic shifts in autoignition temperatures as conditions are changed. The most important reactions leading to hydrogen peroxide formation are identified using rate of production analysis, and the greatest heat releasing reactions are determined in the transition from cool flame to ignition. date: 2005-04-06 date_type: published publisher: European Combustion Meeting (ECM) official_url: https://www.ntnu.edu/fesci/previous-meetings oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 2116948 lyricists_name: Porter, Richard lyricists_id: RTJPO82 actors_name: Porter, Richard actors_id: RTJPO82 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public pres_type: paper publication: Proceedings of the 2nd European Combustion Meeting place_of_pub: Louvain la Neuve, Belgium event_title: The 2nd European Combustion Meeting event_location: Lovain-la-Neuve event_dates: 3 Apr 2023 - 6 Apr 2005 book_title: Proceedings of the European Combustion Meeting 2005 citation: Battin-Leclerc, Frederique; Buda, Frederic; Glaude, Pierre-Alexandre; Griffiths, John; Hughes, Kevin; Porter, Richard; Tomlin, Alison; (2005) A Numerical Study of the Kinetic Origins of Two-Stage Autoignition and the Dependence of Autoignition Temperature on Reactant Pressure in Lean Alkane-Air Mixtures.
