Although there has been some uncertainty about whether GGT is entirely distinct from progressive supranuclear palsy, a recent study of tau filament structures supports the definition of GGT as a separate neuropathological entity. We present a sporadic case of GGT type II presenting with a progressive corticobasal-primary lateral sclerosis overlap syndrome in a 74-year-old woman. Neuropathological examination identified neuronal and glial tau inclusions, including globular astrocytic and oligodendroglial inclusions. We also discuss the clinical features and molecular pathophysiology of GGT. Increased awareness of this condition could become more important as patients with GGT may be candidates for anti-tau therapies currently undergoing clinical evaluation in patients with other tauopathies. date: 2022-11-21 date_type: published publisher: BMJ Publishing Group official_url: https://doi.org/10.1136/pn-2022-003549 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1992240 doi: 10.1136/pn-2022-003549 medium: Print-Electronic pii: pn-2022-003549 lyricists_name: Bhatia, Kailash lyricists_name: Revesz, Tamas lyricists_name: Warner, Thomas lyricists_id: KPBHA96 lyricists_id: TREVE26 lyricists_id: TTWAR25 actors_name: Warner, Thomas actors_id: TTWAR25 actors_role: owner funding_acknowledgements: [PWC is supported by funding from the Reta Lila Weston Trust for Medical Research] full_text_status: public publication: Practical Neurology event_location: England issn: 1474-7766 citation: Cullinane, Patrick W; Sidle, Katie; Bhatia, Kailash P; Revesz, Tamas; Warner, Thomas T; (2022) Globular glial tauopathy type II.
