Research has shown that three dimensional models of ovarian cancer (OvCa) are more realistic than two dimensional in vitro systems as they are able to capture patient in vivo conditions in more accurate manner. The vast majority of studies aiming to recapitulate the ovarian tumour morphology, behaviors, and study chemotherapy responses have been using ovarian cancer cell lines. However, despite the advantages of utilising cancer cell lines to set up a platform, they are not as informative as systems applying patient derived cells, as cell lines are not able to recapitulate differences between each individual patient characteristics. In this review we discussed the most recent advances in the creation of 3D ovarian cancer models that have used patient derived material, the challenges to overcome and future applications. date: 2022-11-02 date_type: published publisher: MDPI AG official_url: https://doi.org/10.3390/cancers14225628 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1987056 doi: 10.3390/cancers14225628 lyricists_name: Velliou, Eirini lyricists_id: EVELL97 actors_name: Velliou, Eirini actors_name: Allington-Smith, Dominic actors_id: EVELL97 actors_id: DAALL44 actors_role: owner actors_role: impersonator full_text_status: public publication: Cancers volume: 14 number: 22 article_number: 5628 issn: 2072-6694 citation: Sevinyan, Lusine; Gupta, Priyanka; Velliou, Eirini; Madhuri, Thumuluru Kavitha; (2022) The development of three-dimensional platform for patient-derived ovarian cancer tissue models.
