Drawing on the key argument that every facet of social reality is a performance, and social interaction is based on tacit agreement among all the participants, the article aims to make sense of a key participant’s making sense of her social world, based on an ethnographic investigation into the work and life of a multilingual, London-based artist of Polish origin. It discusses the creative and critical interpretative potentials that break down the boundaries of performance vs. everyday life, the observer vs. the observed, and the researcher vs. the researched. It also calls for further attention to the performative aspects of translanguaging. date: 2022-07-01 date_type: published publisher: ROUTLEDGE JOURNALS, TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD official_url: https://doi.org/10.1080/01434632.2022.2066109 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1965408 doi: 10.1080/01434632.2022.2066109 lyricists_name: Zhu, Hua lyricists_name: Li, Wei lyricists_id: ZHUAC47 lyricists_id: LWEIX65 actors_name: Flynn, Bernadette actors_id: BFFLY94 actors_role: owner funding_acknowledgements: AH/L007096/1 [Arts and Humanities Research Council] full_text_status: public publication: Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development pages: 14 citation: Hua, Zhu; Wei, Li; (2022) Translanguaging in performance or performance in translanguaging.
