It considers how precarity as a political condition has the ability to shift and attach to different kinds of structures and bodies, including institutions. The case at Strathclyde helps to illustrate how a claim to precarity can be appropriated by an institution, while simultaneously divesting this term of meaning and attachment to human experience. The article builds on this examination of precarity to investigate the precarious status of knowledge in relation to violence. It argues that despite claims to want to know, institutional failure to understand and act on sexual misconduct is a form of wilful ignorance and an exertion of epistemological power that protects the institution. date: 2022 date_type: published publisher: Taylor & Francis official_url: https://doi.org/10.1080/01425692.2022.2057924 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1946572 doi: 10.1080/01425692.2022.2057924 lyricists_name: Page, Tiffany lyricists_id: TPAGE75 actors_name: Page, Tiffany actors_id: TPAGE75 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: British Journal of Sociology of Education volume: 43 number: 4 pagerange: 566-583 citation: Page, Tiffany; (2022) Sexual misconduct in UK higher education and the precarity of institutional knowledge.
