N2 - The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to examine the impact of certain individual and sociodemographic variables on the oral and linguistic competences in Spanish of a group of adult migrant learners living in Madrid; and (b) to identify key difficulties that these migrants face regarding several features of Spanish grammar. According to the results obtained, neither gender nor educational level in the first language had a considerable influence on their oral and linguistic competences. Moreover, younger participants and those who had spent more time in Spain tended to make fewer errors in their oral production. A qualitative analysis of these errors revealed that the main difficulties were on verb forms, prepositions, and the use of pronouns and articles.
