Our installation, The Light, was first exhibited as part of the Late at Tate Britain event in 2019. In this paper we discuss the concept and technological implementation behind the work, and present an initial qualitative study of observations made of the people who interacted with it. The study provides a subjective evaluation based on people's facial expressions and body language as they improvise and coordinate their movements with one another and with the installation. date: 2020-09 date_type: published publisher: Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) official_url: http://doi.org/10.1145/3410530.3414378 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1841396 doi: 10.1145/3410530.3414378 isbn_13: 9781450380768 lyricists_name: Peng, Youhong lyricists_id: YPENB44 actors_name: Peng, Youhong actors_id: YPENB44 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public series: ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing and Proceedings of the 2020 ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computers (UbiComp-ISWC) volume: 20 place_of_pub: New York, NY, USA pagerange: 102-105 event_title: 2020 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing and Proceedings of the 2020 ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computers (UbiComp-ISWC '20) event_location: Virtual conference, Mexico institution: 2020 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing and the 2020 International Symposium on Wearable Computers (UbiComp/ISWC’20 Adjunct) book_title: UbiComp-ISWC '20: Adjunct Proceedings of the 2020 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing and Proceedings of the 2020 ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computers editors_name: Tentori, M editors_name: Weibel, N editors_name: Van Laerhoven, K editors_name: Abowd, G editors_name: Salim, F citation: Peng, Y(F); Tanaka, A; Ward, JA; (2020) The light: exploring socially improvised movements using wearable sensors in a performative installation.
