Our research explored the unique, social justice\r\ncontribution that Nursery Schools make to the early years\r\nsector, in terms of educating children and supporting families\r\nfrom disadvantaged backgrounds. We define socioeconomically disadvantaged families in our work as those\r\nwhose parents are in receipt of state-provided benefits,\r\nreferred to hereafter as disadvantaged. The project focuses\r\non Nursery Schools’ roles in reducing the disadvantage gap,\r\nthrough an examination of how staff in these schools see their\r\nown practice as improving disadvantaged children’s\r\noutcomes. Th research highlights some of the policy related\r\ncontext for this work, which may hinder practitioners in this\r\naim.\r\nOur research confirmed that the role of the nursery school\r\nin supporting all children, but particularly those from socioeconomically disadvantaged families, has expanded\r\nconsiderably in the past decade as a direct consequence of\r\nausterity policies."^^<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string> .
