It is therefore encouraging to see the first signs of a ‘natural capital approach’ to decision making being accepted within government policy processes and the private sector. However, there are multiple different understandings of this ‘approach’, many of which misuse or omit key features of its foundations in natural science and economics. To address this, we present a framework for natural capital analysis and decision making that links ecological and economic perspectives. date: 2020-10 date_type: published official_url: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41893-020-0552-3 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1794753 doi: 10.1038/s41893-020-0552-3 lyricists_name: Mace, Georgina lyricists_id: GMACE69 actors_name: Mace, Georgina actors_id: GMACE69 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: Nature Sustainability volume: 3 pagerange: 776-783 citation: Bateman, I; Mace, G; (2020) The natural capital framework for sustainable, efficient and equitable decision making.
