abstract: This is one of four reports that are being produced by researchers in the project Reshaping the Collectible: When Artworks Live in the Museum. Each offers a perspective from one of four practices that are changing in response to artworks that challenge the existing structures of the museum: archives and record management, registration and collection management, conservation, and curating, collecting and museology. In this report, Hélia Marçal discusses the history and theory of conservation, her position within the project and within Tate, and the key questions that she will bring to the research.
