The study used an independent group design, whereby one group was administered alcohol and the other received a matched placebo. Both groups were required to imagine future-oriented events in relation to a cue sentence and then perform various cognitive tasks, including an imagination task. The results indicated that EFT remains relatively robust against acute alcohol effects. The implications of this finding are considered within the context of clinical interventions for alcohol dependent individuals. EFT simulations were also found to include episodic memory content, thereby providing support for the Constructive Episodic Simulation hypothesis (Schacter, Addis & Buckner, 2008). date: 2019-10-30 date_type: published oa_status: green full_text_type: other thesis_class: doctoral_open thesis_award: D.Clin.Psy language: eng thesis_view: UCL_Thesis primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1711330 lyricists_name: Brown, Saisha lyricists_id: SMBRO92 actors_name: Brown, Saisha actors_id: SMBRO92 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public pagerange: 0-0 pages: 190 event_title: University College London institution: UCL (University College London) department: Division of Psychology and Language Sciences thesis_type: Doctoral editors_name: Curran, V editors_name: Kamboj, S citation: Brown, Marie; (2019) Drinking and Future-oriented Cognition: Acute Alcohol Effects on Episodic Future Thinking in Social Drinkers.
