%I IET %L discovery10077640 %K LAN interconnection, Wide area networks %J IEE Colloquium on `Extending the LAN - High Speed Data Services' %X We have many applications which are difficult to accommodate on the current WANs, though they operate reasonably over LANs. These demanding applications include, unicast, multicast and near-broadcast services. Normally these applications can be made to operate in a small scale over MANs and WANs; larger scale deployment requires resolution of a number of technical and managerial problems which we are starting to understand-but have not yet resolved.
