In this article, we discuss key trends in the gender division of labor across 13 developed countries over a 50‐year period. These trends show little decisive evidence for a stall but rather a continuing, if uneven, long‐term trend in the direction of greater gender equality. We set out a theoretical framework for understanding slow change in the division of unpaid work and care (lagged generational change). We argue that, through a long‐term view of the processes of change, this framework can help address why progress in the convergence in paid and unpaid work promised by the gender revolution has been so slow. date: 2018-03 date_type: published publisher: WILEY official_url: https://doi.org/10.1111/jftr.12248 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1640704 doi: 10.1111/jftr.12248 lyricists_name: Gershuny, Jonathan lyricists_name: Sullivan, Oriel lyricists_id: JGERS42 lyricists_id: OSULL76 actors_name: Nonhebel, Lucinda actors_id: LNONH33 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: Journal of Family Theory and Review volume: 10 number: 1 article_number: Special Issue: TENTH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL ISSUE: Family Theory: Past, Present, Future pagerange: 263-279 pages: 17 issn: 1756-2589 citation: Sullivan, O; Gershuny, J; Robinson, JP; (2018) Stalled or Uneven Gender Revolution?
