The first is a comprehensive rule-based approach that favoured recall, and which achieved the best recall for time expression identification in Clinical TempEval. The second is an SVM-based system built using readily available components, which was able to achieve a competitive F1 in a short development time. We discuss how the two approaches perform relative to each other, and how characteristics of the corpus affect the suitability of different approaches and their outcomes. date: 2015-06 date_type: published publisher: Association for Computational Linguistics official_url: https://doi.org/10.18653/v1/S15-2141 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1561851 doi: 10.18653/v1/S15-2141 lyricists_name: Correa Tissot, Hegler lyricists_id: HTISS81 actors_name: Tissot, Hegler actors_id: HTISS81 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public series: International Workshop on Semantic Evaluation (SemEval 2015) publication: Proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Semantic Evaluation (SemEval 2015) volume: 9 place_of_pub: Denver, Colorado pagerange: 835-839 event_title: 9th International Workshop on Semantic Evaluation (SemEval 2015) book_title: Proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Semantic Evaluation (SemEval 2015) editors_name: Post, Matt editors_name: Kan, Min-Yen editors_name: Bird, Steven citation: Tissot, H; Gorrell, G; Roberts, A; Derczynski, L; Fabro, MDD; (2015) UFPRSheffield: Contrasting Rule-based and Support Vector Machine Approaches to Time Expression Identification in Clinical TempEval.
