Integrating health interventions into existing online social environments removes this barrier. However, little is known about the effects of linking sensitive health information to existing online identities. Our qualitative analysis of online comments (n=192) explores the user views of an HIV intervention integrated into the geosocial hookup app Grindr. We find some HIV positive users report keeping their status private to reduce their stigma exposure, whilst others report publicly disclosing their status to avoid being stigmatised by others. Where users keep their status private, we find concerns that social assumptions may develop around these non-disclosures, creating a privacy unraveling effect which restricts disclosure choice. Using Peppet's four proposed limits to privacy unraveling, we develop a set of descriptive conceptual designs to explore the privacy respecting potential of these limits within this context and propose further research to address this privacy challenge. date: 2018-11 date_type: published publisher: ACM official_url: https://doi.org/10.1145/3274450 oa_status: green full_text_type: other language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1583934 doi: 10.1145/3274450 lyricists_name: Blandford, Ann lyricists_name: Gutmann, Andreas lyricists_name: Sasse, Martina lyricists_name: Warner, Mark lyricists_id: AEBLA22 lyricists_id: AFBGU06 lyricists_id: MASAS22 lyricists_id: MWARN90 actors_name: Warner, Mark actors_id: MWARN90 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public series: ACM on Human-Computer Interaction publication: Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction, Vol. 2 volume: 21 number: CSCW place_of_pub: New York, NY, USA pagerange: 181 event_title: CSCW 2018, 21st ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing, 3-7 November 2018, Jersey City, USA event_location: Jersey City, US event_dates: 03 November 2018 - 06 September 2018 institution: The 21st ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing book_title: Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction - CSCW citation: Warner, M; Gutmann, A; Sasse, MA; Blandford, A; (2018) Privacy Unraveling Around Explicit HIV Status Disclosure Fields in the Online Geosocial Hookup App Grindr.
