The mechanism had three interesting features. Firstly, the groups were initially formed as Rotating, Saving and Credit Associations. This enabled the lender to screen the groups. Second, there was significant heterogeneity within the group in terms of income and educational achievements. Third, the relatively wealthy individuals dominated the decision making process in the group and were able to obtain a disproportionate amount of credit allocated to the group. date: 2005-11 date_type: published publisher: School of Economics, the University of Edinburgh official_url: https://www.ed.ac.uk/economics/research/discussion-papers oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1567618 lyricists_name: Aniket, Kumar lyricists_id: KANIK55 actors_name: Aniket, Kumar actors_id: KANIK55 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public series: ESE Discussion Papers number: 137 place_of_pub: Edinburgh, UK pages: 61 citation: Aniket, K; (2005) Self Help Groups: Use of modified ROSCAs in Microfinance.
