The workshop is part of an ongoing investigation that explores the connections between some of the different dimensions likely to shape conceptions and applications of consent in the emerging Internet of Things (IoT). The impetus for the workshop was the recognition that two significant developments will challenge conventional approaches to online consent. From a technical perspective, the IoT will significantly increase personal data collection, use and re-use. From a regulatory perspective, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force in May 2018, will make much higher demands on practices of giving and obtaining consent. Combined, these two factors suggest that consent will be a major issue for all actors in the next five years and it requires some careful analysis now in order to adequately prepare for these developments. date: 2018-02-16 publisher: PETRAS IoT Hub, STEaPP official_url: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3117293 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1561367 confidential: false lyricists_name: Brass, Irina lyricists_name: Carr, Madeline lyricists_name: Steenmans, Ine lyricists_name: Tanczer, Leonie lyricists_id: IIORD26 lyricists_id: MCARR21 lyricists_id: ISTEE12 lyricists_id: LMTAN17 actors_name: Tanczer, Leonie actors_id: LMTAN17 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public place_of_pub: London, UK pages: 36 citation: Tanczer, LM; Carr, M; Brass, I; Steenmans, I; Blackstock, J; (2018) IoT and Its Implications for Informed Consent.
