abstract: This article draws from a dissertation composed of ethnographical study on the work of codebar London, a chapter of an organisation working to diversify the tech work force by offering free programming workshops to under-represented people. It delves into the role played by codebar’s organisers, considering how the problem of gender, ethnic and sexual under-representation in technology work leads to codebar’s particular effort to solve it. In exploring links between the organisers’ work and existing theories about empowering pedagogy, it addresses the question: How is diversity practiced educationally?
