The review was both rigorous and innovative, providing a contextualised systematic analysis of policy and research on parenting support in five non-English language European countries, in a field dominated by English language literature. The journal article draws on this study to confront a critical, but inadequately addressed, issue - the way in which understandings of efficacy (and of how to determine 'what works') relate to cross-country differences in approaches to parenting support, within countries' policy and service contexts. The research thus brings together theoretical and practical questions, to offer a fresh perspective on debates about support for parents and families.
