N1 - This study reviewed the methodological and conceptual literature on diversity, to identify scientifically and/or ethically appropriate ways for health promotion and public health research to include socially diverse populations of children and young people. The results indicated a patchy nature of research reporting, suggesting that analysis is driven more often by convenience than by science. Researchers should think critically about how social diversity can most appropriately be reflected in policy-relevant research.
