Abstract
We conducted a rapid evidence assessment (REA) of the literature on the relation between educational resourcing and various outcomes. Of nearly 4,000 abstracts assessed, 60 studies were identified and synthesised using systematic REA methods. Overall, the evidence suggests that there is a small positive association between educational inputs (such as per-pupil expenditure) and attainment. There is some evidence for improvements in educational progression (typically measured as pursuing higher education) and reduction in likely crimerelated behaviour, although fewer studies measured these outcomes. The study concludes that there might be sufficient grounds for using attainment and educational progression in an outcomes-based educational resource allocation formula, but a well-developed dataset with pupil-level data would be required to establish the strength of the relation in the Welsh context.
