Abstract
This issue of Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter is published in memory of Dr Michael Norgett. In recognition of his contributions to the subject of computational physics. It contains articles by his former friends and colleagues and others whose own scientific work in this field—mainly materials physics—has been influenced by his. In this introductory note we will try to set his work and influence in the context of the time.
