Abstract
Reaction of elemental metal Pb, Ag, Zn and Cd with sulfur or selenium in liquid ammonia at room temperature for 2-12 h produces highly crystalline PbS, PbSe, Ag2S, Ag2Se and X-ray amorphous ZnS, ZnSe, CdS and CdSe in virtually quantitative yield.
