Abstract

A strategy for adaptive mesh generation is proposed. The method consists of the use of a suitably defined “density function”, which can either be defined by the user or be calculated from a previous approximate solution, to guide the generation of a new mesh. This new mesh is built starting from a minimal number of triangular elements which are then in several sweeps, repeatedly refined according to the density function. The Delaunay algorithm is used in each stage to keep the shape of the triangles as equilateral as possible. © 1993 IEEE
