A procedure is described which allows ceramic bodies to be joined before firing in order to achieve a high level of complexity of form incorporating, for example, re-entrant chambers. Suspensions of fine ceramic powder in an organic vehicle which can be shaped initially by extrusion, injection moulding or other plastic forming operations were subsequently joined by solvent welding. The organic vehicle was removed by pyrolysis and the arrangement of particles at the interface was explored by scanning electron microscopy after partial and nearly complete sintering. © 1991.
