Abstract

B-W-C composites consisting of B 4 C, WC, W 2 B 5 and C phases were fabricated by controlled reaction hot processing of a mixture of B 4 C and WC powder. The relative density, flexure strength and fracture toughness increased with increasing WC content and sintering temperature. The multi-layered phases were identified to be a mixture of W 2 B 5 and carbon.
