Abstract

This paper reviews the status of the use of rational functions models for photogrammetry. A major review was published at the ISPRS Congress in Amsterdam, and since then many more tests have been carried out to determine the accuracy of the method, particularly for setting up Images from the Ikonos sensor. Software for doing this is available on a number of digital photogrammetric systems. The paper reviews the published work and concludes that accurate results can be obtained from using rational function models, but that there is no evidence that the method is likely to replace traditional rigorous methods.
