Abstract

This chapter (in Spanish) presents an exhaustive analysis of the origin and development of religious objects (known as cemis), the rituals and ceremonies in which they were used/displayed. It also examines these cemi objects (featured in the exhibition) from the perspective of who they are as social beings (personhood, identities), their roles (including embodied memory) and how they related to humans and society, especially the ruling elite, andtheir implications in the sea-/landscapes, over time, It culminates with an examination of the processes of anti-syncretism (resistance) and syncretism (transculturation) with Catholic-Spanish icons.
