Abstract

The buckling problems of orthotropic cylindrical sandwich shells subjected to lateral loads are studied. At first, the effect of the shear stiffness and thickness of the core to the buckling load of the members are examined. The strain energy, its components and the buckling modes of the members are also examined. Furthermore, the lower bound of the elastic buckling of the members in considering the scatter of the initial imperfection is proposed based on the reduced stiffness method, and the basic property of the buckling strength obtained by the method is examined
